BLOOMFIELD, NJ- Dre'Shonda Williams scored a game high 15 points off the bench as Bloomfield College topped Elizabeth City State University 54-50 Thursday night.
The loss halts the Lady Vikings' win streak at four games. Poor shooting in the first half by both teams (ECSU 7 for 37, BC 9 for 34) led to an 18-18 tie at the intermission.
The Lady Viking shooting woes continued in the second half as ECSU connected on only 27% of their attempts (10-37). The Lady Deacons (4-2) fared better from the floor going 12-30 for 40% overall.
In the second half Bloomfield built a seven point lead (42-35) before the Lady Vikings rallied to tie the game 44-44 on two free throws by De'Rya Wylie with 4:44 remaining. The Lady Deacons then reeled off seven unanswered to take a 51-44 lead with 1:16 left in the game.
Late 3-pointers on back to back possessions, the latter coming from Jasmine Whitehurst, with 23 ticks left pulled ECSU within a three, 53-50. Then the teams swapped turnovers giving the ball back to Bloomfield where Williams sank one of two free throws for the final point spread.
Whitehurst and DaShera Boone led ECSU with 12 points each while Stephanie Harper pulled down a season high 14 rebounds.
The Lady Vikings (7-2) will return to action on December 18 when they host Virginia University of Lynchburg on December 18. Game time is scheduled for 7:00pm. Visit www.ecsuvikings.com and follow on Twitter @ECSUVikings.
