Final Stats
ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Elizabeth City State University Lady Vikings placed four in double figures in a 61-43 win over Virginia University of Lynchburg Tuesday night at the RL Vaughan Center.
The Lady Vikings close out their non-conference schedule sporting an 8-2 record overall. They will return to the hardwood on January 3, 2013 in their CIAA opener at the Vaughan Center versus Shaw University.
The opening half had two ties and the lead changed on four different occasions. The Lady Dragons' Ebony Ellis led all scorers with 12 points which were somewhat nullified by the Lady Viking defense, forcing 16 VUL turnovers in the first half. The miscues led 12 points for the Lady Vikings and ECSU held a 28-23 lead at the intermission.
In the second half VUL (2-5) cut the ECSU lead to two on three different occasions, the last coming on an Ellis layup at the 13:13 mark to make the score 34-32. The Lady Vikings then reeled of a 15-0 run to give ECSU a double digit advantage that would hold the rest of the game.
Turnovers haunted the Lady Dragons throughout the contest; they finished with 31 on the evening which led to 28 points for ECSU. The two teams had a similar percentage from the floor with VUL shooting a 39% clip while ECSU went 22-55 for 40%. Alliyah Floyd led all scorers in the losing effort with 20 points while Ellis chipped in with 18.
Stephanie Harper led four Lady Vikings in double digits with 14 points. Dashera Boone netted 13 while Shatara Jackson and Shawnte Taylor scored 10 apiece.
ECSU will tip off the New Year on January 3, 2013 in Elizabeth City as they welcome defending Division II national champion Shaw University to the RL Vaughan Center.
