Final Stats

ELIZABETH CITY, NC-Three Lady Vikings registered double figures as Elizabeth City State University came from behind to topple Virginia State University 62-52 Saturday afternoon at the RL Vaughan Center.

On a layup by the Lady Trojans' Brianna Holt, Virginia State took a 33-26 lead at the 18:18 mark of the second half. Then back to back three-pointers by Jasmine Whitehurst capped a 14-4 Lady Viking run with 10:17 remaining and ECSU never trailed from that point on.

Whitehurst's first three point basket during that scoring spurt gave ECSU their first lead of the game 37-34. The Lady Trojans, who raced out to take a 10-2 lead to begin the game, led the entire first half and held a 29-22 lead at the break.

After the intermission, ECSU picked up their defense forcing the Lady Trojans (9-10, CIAA 1-6) into 14 second half turnovers which the Lady Vikings turned into 17 points. DeAudra Brown provided a spark in the second half, scoring 10 of her 13 points.

ECSU was + 10 for the game in rebounds 37-27 behind a game high 12 boards from Stephanie Harper. Harper finished topped all scorers with 16 points to collect her ninth double-double of the season.

Wykeemia Gray chipped in with 10 points to rounded out ECSU' s double figure scorers. Marquilla Evans was the only VSU player in double figures with 14 points off the bench.

VSU drops to 0-2 in the CIAA North while ECSU moves to 2-1 in the Division.
