Final Stats
ELIZABETH CITY, NC- Although they were outscored in the second half, the Elizabeth City State University Lady Vikings held on for a 60-56 win over Lincoln University of Pennsylvania Saturday evening at the RL Vaughan Center.
ECSU held a 27-18 lead at the intermission but struggled offensively in the second half, shooting 39% from the field (13-33). Meanwhile the Lady Lions went in attack mode, outscoring the Lady Vikings 18-9 to tie the game at 36 apiece with 13:14 to go. A layup by Wykeemia Gray temporarily put ECSU in front until Brittney Waters' first three-pointer of the evening gave Lincoln their first lead since the 10:32 mark of the first half.
Water's 3-pointer ignited a 6-0 spurt and Lincoln held their largest lead of the night, 43-38, with 9:25 left in regulation. The Lady Lions stayed in front until back to back scores by Stephanie Harper and Whitney Gray gave ECSU a 53-51 advantage. At the 3:15 mark a rebound and stick back by Mfon Ekanem tied the game however that basket proved to be Lincoln's field goal of the night.
ECSU retook the lead on five straight points by Harper and DeAudra Brown sealed the win with two free throws with 14 seconds remaining. The Lady Vikings finished the night with 21 second chance points off of 19 offensive rebounds.
With the loss the Lady Lions slip to 4-14 on the season and are still winless in conference play (0-7).
Wykeemia Gray topped all scorers with 14 points while Stephanie Harper grabbed a game high 12 rebounds.
