ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Elizabeth City State University Lady Vikings overcame a five point deficit in the waning minutes to capture a 62-58 win over Bloomfield College at the RL Vaughan Center.
Stephanie Harper registered her third double-double of the season with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
The Lady Deacons trailed the entire second half then rallied to take a 58-53 lead with 2:19 remaining in the contest. On ECSU's next possession, Stephanie Harper hit a layup and was fouled by Bloomfield's Shaniqua Bacote, her fifth of the game. The foul drew a reaction Bacote and a subsequent technical foul was assessed to the team bench. Harper then hit two of three free throw attempts to trim Bloomfield's lead to 58-57.
Shatara Jackson sank 5 of 6 free throws in the final 1:33 to close out the victory. For the game ECSU struggled from the field, hitting only 16-50 shots (32%) but were 27-40 from the free throw line compared to 18-29 from the charity stripe for Bloomfield.
The Lady Deacons, who slip to 3-5 overall, got 11 points apiece from Emily Hall and Lauren Deverin.
