Final Stats
ETTRICK, VA-The Elizabeth City State University Lady Vikings rallied from an eleven point halftime deficit to capture a 83-78 overtime win over Augusta State University at the Chick-fil-A Classic hosted by Virginia State University.
Stephanie Harper scored 20 of her game (career high) 28 points in the second half and overtime to lead ECSU. Shatara Jackson added 21 points, 6 assists and 6 steals while Jasmine Whitehurst rounded out the double figure scorers with 15 points.
The Lady Vikings trailed by as many as 15 in the second half and were down seven with 1:37 left in regulation. After a jumper by DeAudra Brown made it 63-58 in favor of ASU, a steal and layup by Jasmine Whitehurst pulled ECSU within three points with 34 seconds left. A foul sent the Jaguars' Laci Schreiber to the line where she converted one of two shots.
On the Lady Vikings next possession Whitehurst drilled a three pointer with 21 seconds remaining, pulling ECSU within a point, 64-63. A foul then sent ASU's Tiffany Jaecks to the free throw line where she sank both shots for a 66-63 lead with 16 ticks left.
With 4 seconds left Stephanie Harper then hit a three-pointer, her third of the season, to send the game to an extra session.
ECSU trailed briefly by a basket at the start of the overtime but after a three pointer by Whitney Gray at the 4:09 mark, the Lady Vikings would not look back, going on to lead by as many as eight (82-74). They went 6-10 from the free throw line in overtime to seal the win.
