LADY VIKINGS DEFEAT VIRGINIA STATE 63-60

ETTRICK, VA-Elizabeth City State University held off a furious late run by Virginia State University to prevail with a 63-60 win Saturday afternoon at Daniel Gymnasium.

After trailing 29-17 at the break and by as many as 14 in the second half, the Lady Trojans managed to tie the game on three separate occasions. The Lady Vikings grabbed the lead for good when Stephanie Harper's layup jumpstarted a 9-0 run and a 60-51 advantage with 3:00 minutes left. The lead was still a nine point spread with 1:16 to go but back to back out of bounds turnovers and fouls under the VSU basket allowed the Lady Trojans to cut the lead to 62-60 with 39 ticks left.

Kenyatta Gill sank went one of two from the line with 22 seconds left for the final score. The Lady Vikings held on for the win despite being outrebounded 42-29 and in the second half was outscored by Virginia State (10-5, 4-3) 43-34.

Shatara Jackson had a team high 16 points while Gill finished with 15 points.

The Lady Trojan's Rhon'Neisha Taylor topped all scorers with 21 points.
