ELIZABETH CITY, NC- Ransheda Jennings scored a game high 20 points as the Chowan University Hawks captured a 61-53 win over Elizabeth City State University Thursday night at the RL Vaughan Center.
Jennings was only 4-9 from the field but made the most of her time at the free throw line going 12-14 on the night. The Hawks now sit atop the CIAA Northern Division with a 3-0 mark while ECSU slips to 1-2 in divisional play.
For the second straight game ECSU was held to 53 points in a losing effort. The Lady Vikings were also limited to just 9-28 shooting (32.1%) in the second half while concurrently the Hawks shot a blazing 54% in the second half.
Neither team led by more than eight points and the game had 10 lead changes and eight ties.
ECSU was held to just two field goals in the game's final 8 minutes as the Hawks (8-9, CIAA 5-4) the Lady Vikings 14-6 over the same span.
Kenyatta Gill collected a double-double of 13 points and 10 boards while Shatara Jackson and Tiffany Gadsden scored 11 points apiece.
