Final Stats
RALEIGH, NC-Elizabeth City State's Kenyatta Gill tallied her fourth double-double of the season as the Lady Vikings captured a 74-67 win over Shaw University at Spaulding Gymnasium.
Gill poured in a game high 24 points on 8-16 shooting and pulled down 10 rebounds as ECSU defeated the Lady Bears for the second straight time on their home floor. Last season the Lady Vikings hung on for a 66-64 overtime win in Raleigh.
Monday's game was not that close as ECSU came out firing on all cylinders from the opening tip. In the first half the Lady Vikings were hot from long range, hitting 6 of 13 attempts en route to a 38-22 halftime lead. The Lady Bears struggled from the field in the first stanza, connecting on only 7-31 shots while committing 13 turnovers.
In the second half at the 17:46 mark, ECSU got its largest lead on the game 48-24 on a layup by Tiffany Gadsden. Aside from a late Shaw rally in the game's final minutes which cut into the lead, the Lady Vikings maintained a comfortable double digit cushion for much of the second half and were never seriously threatened.
Shatara Jackson was the only other Lady Vikings in double figures with 16 points. Britteny Spencer topped Shaw with 17 points as the Lady Bears slip to 10-7 overall and 3-3 in the conference.
