Final Stats
ELIZABETH CITTY, NC- Despite a trailing by 14 points early on, the Elizabeth City State University Lady Vikings regrouped to capture a 69-42 decision over Fayetteville State University Monday evening at the RL Vaughan Center.
As ECSU struggled in the game's opening minutes, the Lady Broncos galloped out to a 19-6 lead at the 9:45 mark. The Lady Vikings found their offense over the half's closing minutes and a layup by Shatara Jackson as the intermission buzzer sounded completed a 21-6 run, simultaneously giving ECSU their first lead of the game 27-25.
It was more of the same in the second stanza as the ECSU opened the half on a 12-0 run. A three pointer by FSU's LaQuasha Jordan ended a five and a half minute scoring drought and her team would make a push cutting the lead to single digits with 13:27 to go. A three-pointer by Briana Glover followed by a steal and layup by Jackson pushed the lead back to double digits, where it would stay for the rest of the game.
FSU shot a cold 13% on 3-23 shots in the second half. No Lady Bronco scored in double digits as they fall to 1-10 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
ECSU got balanced scoring across the board with all but one player scoring a bucket. Kenyatta Gill and Shaquella Johnson were the only players in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
ECSU (9-4, CIAA 2-1) will hit the road to face Winston-Salem State University on Saturday, January 15th. Game time is scheduled for 5:30pm.
