Final Stats

ELIZABETH CITY, NC- Davis & Elkins improved to 1-1 overall on the young season with a 53-49 win over Elizabeth City State University Saturday evening at the RL Vaughan Center.

The Lady Senators managed to squeak out the win, despite the fact that they went scoreless from the floor the last 7:02 of the game. At that point, a layup by Jorden Lykes gave D&E their biggest lead of the game, a 13-point spread, 45-32.

The Lady Vikings then reeled off a 16-1 run which included 11 consecutive points by Kenyatta Gill. Her final basket at the 2:21 mark gave ECSU their first lead of the contest, 48-46. The Lady Senators regained the lead from the free throw line, going 7-11 in the closing minutes while the Lady Vikings misfired on their final three attempts from the field in the four point loss.

Poor shooting cost ECSU for the second time in as many nights, as they connected on only 20 of 70 attempts at the basket. They also struggled from the charity stripe going 7-21 and were out-rebounded by the Lady Senators + 8 (53-45).

ECSU trailed by the score of 25-19 at the intermission.

Gill was the only ECSU player to tally double figures with a game high 15 points. Lykes led the Lady Senators with 12 points off the bench.
