Final Stats
ELIZABETH CITY, NC-Virginia State University overcame a four point halftime deficit to earn as 80-69 victory over Elizabeth City State University Saturday night at the RL Vaughan Center.
The Lady Trojan attacked the rim at every opportunity and subsequently was the beneficiary of 49 attempts from the charity stripe, 34 of which they converted. Virginia State scored 20 points from the free throw line alone in the second half.
Even facing those odds, the Lady Vikings were down only two (71-69) with a 1:25 remaining after a layup by Kearah Jefferys. That would represent ECSU's final basket as VSU (12-2, CIAA 5-2) converted 6-8 free throws and a layup by Angela Brown to ice the game.
Katania Walker led the Lady Trojans with 18 points while Joyce Freeman and Briana Glover tied with a team high 18 points apiece for ECSU.
The Lady Vikings (2-9, CIAA 0-5) will return to action on Tuesday, January 13th as they host Saint Augustine's College in a cross division match-up. Game time is scheduled for 5:30pm at the RL Vaughan Center. For more information on ECSU Athletics, visit www.ecsuvikings.com.
