Final Stats
ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Elizabeth City State Vikings extended their win streak to eleven games with a 90-64 win over the University of District of Columbia Tuesday night at the R.L. Vaughan Center.
With the victory ECSU avenges a 65-60 loss suffered at the hands of the Firebirds back on November 25, 2007.
Anthony Hilliard finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds but like the game back in November fouled out. Fortunately for ECSU, three other Vikings netted double figures with Matt Nowlin leading the way with a season best 25 points followed by Anthony Butler and Olajuwon Johnson with 14 and 11 points.
ECSU never trailed in the game and at one point in the first stanza opened up a 13 point lead. The Firebirds shot back with an 11-2 run in the closing minutes to trim the gap to four points before head coach Julius Smith was whistled for two technicals during a Viking timeout and was ejected with 25 seconds left before the intermission. Four free throws by Matt Nowlin followed by a 3-pointer by Anthony Butler gave ECSU a 40-29 edge at the break.
The Vikings' advantage remained at double digits for the duration of the contest. All in all UDC (11-8) was whistled for five technicals, three on the coaching staff with the remaining two assessed to players.
ECSU will return to action as part of a CIAA double header on Thursday, February 14 as they host Saint Augustine's College. It will be "Think Pink" day to promote Breast Cancer Awareness. Game times are 5:30 and 7:30pm. For more information on ECSU Athletics, visit www.ecsuvikings.com.
