Final Stats

SALISBURY, NC-The Elizabeth City State Lady Vikings dropped their first CIAA game of the young 2008-09 season to Livingstone College 67-62 Thursday evening at New Trent Gymnasium.

The Lady Blue Bears trailed the entire contest until a jumper by Asheka Hudson with 1:48 remaining gave the home team a 60-61 edge. Joyce Freeman responded on the Lady Vikings' next possession with a jumper off an offensive rebound with 1:15 to go. Livingstone (2-1, CIAA 1-1) took the lead for good on a layup by Brittany Wright with 47 ticks left. ECSU was not able to capitalize on any of their final attempts at the basket and the Lady Blue Bears would ice the game by going 4-for-4 from the free throw line in the final seconds of regulation.

Livingstone placed four in double figures with Wright tallying games highs in points and rebounds with 21 and 15, respectively.

Briana Glover was the high scorer for the Lady Vikings with 17 points while April Whitaker chipped in with 8 points and 14 rebounds. Joyce Freeman was the only other Lady Viking to score double figures with 14 points.

ECSU (0-2, CIAA 0-1) will hold their home opener against Lincoln University of Pennsylvania on Saturday, November 22.. Game time is scheduled for 5:30pm at the RL Vaughan Center. For more information on ECSU Athletics, visit www.ecsuvikings.com.
