TRAHAN, OWENS NAMED CIAA PLAYER, COACH OF THE WEEK

HAMPTON, VA- Elizabeth City State University head women's basketball coach Tara Owens and junior center Celeste Trahan have been named CIAA Coach and Player of the Week as released by the conference office Monday afternoon.

Third year head coach Tara Owens garners her third Coach of the Week honor this season as the Lady Vikings went 3-0 last week. They halted the win streaks divisional foes Bowie State (4 games), Shaw University (7 games) and with their 19-point win over Fayetteville State avenged their only CIAA loss of the year. The Lady Vikings (currently on a 6-game win streak) are in first place in the CIAA Eastern Division with a 6-0 mark, are 16-5 overall and 13-1 in conference play.

All-American center Celeste Trahan has been named CIAA Player of the Week for the fourth time this season. In three games last week, she averaged 24.6 points, 12.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 2.3 blocks and 2.0 steals. Her best game came in ECSU's win over Fayetteville State with 32 points, 17 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals and 5 blocks. She currently leads the CIAA in scoring, rebounding and blocks, is 2nd in field goal percentage and 14th in steals.
