DURHAM, NC- North Carolina Central University closed the game on a 29-11 run to earn a come from behind victory over Elizabeth City State University 75-72 Tuesday night at McLendon-McDougald Gymnasium.
Prior to the late Lady Eagles scoring onslaught, ECSU enjoyed an 18-point lead with 11:04 left in the second half. Led by LaQuanda Williams, who scored 19 of her game high 23 points in the second half, the Lady Eagles negated their 13-point halftime deficit (42-29), out scoring ECSU 46-30 in the second stanza by shooting a blazing 64% from the field. The Lady Vikings had led the entire contest until a jumper by Jasmine Newkirk with 6:43 to go game them a 63-62 lead. After a free throw by Joyce Freeman tied the score at 63 apiece, a go-ahead 3-pointer by Jennifer Hukill gave the Lady Eagles back the lead. With 3:10 remaining Ashley Bowman would momentarily tie the score before NCCU took the lead for good on a Williams' lay-up on the ensuing possession.
Deanna Price paced ECSU with 15 points and 10 assists as the Lady Vikings slip to 17-6 overall, 14-2 in the CIAA.
