Final Stats
RALEIGH, NC- The Shaw University Lady Bears notched their 68th straight CIAA win with a 90-55 victory over Elizabeth City State University Saturday night in Raleigh, NC.
The loss snaps a nine game winning streak as ECSU drops their second conference game of the season. Their first CIAA loss also came at the hands pf the Lady Bears back on January 10th in Elizabeth City.
The Lady Bears came out firing on all cylinders taking a commanding 20-2 lead early in the first half. Due to their hot shooting, Shaw held a 50-13 lead at the intermission shooting an impressive 46 % from the floor. On the other hand ECSU went a bleak 21% from the field on 6-28 shooting while committing a season high 19 first half turnovers. In the second half, the Lady Bears would only register 37% from the field but it would not make a difference because the damage had already been done. ECSU did outscore the Lady Bears 42-40 but it would be to no avail as the home team had built more than enough cushion to cruise to the 35-point win.
The Lady Bears (17-4) now own sole possession of first place in the CIAA's Eastern Division with an unblemished 5-0 record. Shaw placed three in double figures led by Carletta Harrell's 15 points.
ECSU was paced by Tanika Hudgins as the only Lady Viking in double figures with 23 points and a season best 18 rebounds.
The Lady Vikings (12-7, CIAA 7-2) will return to action on Tuesday, February 7 as they travel to face Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC. Game time is slated for 5:30pm. For more information on ECSU Athletics, log onto www.ecsuvikings.com.
