HAMPTON, VA- Three members of the Elizabeth City State University women's basketball team have been named to the 2006 All-CIAA Women's Basketball Team.
Sophomore All-American candidate Celeste Trahan has been named All-CIAA for the second time in as many years. This season, the Stockton, CA native was named CIAA Player of the Week five times while leading the conference in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots. She also ranked 7th in field goal percentage, 11th in steals and 14th in minutes played. For the second consecutive year her rebounding average (15.4) is the best in NCAA Division II. Nationally she ranks 14th in scoring, 21st in blocks and 50th in field goal percentage.
Joining Trahan with All-Conference honors is junior guard Deanna Price. Price, a native of Washington, DC has been the floor general for the Lady Vikings with stellar all-around play at both ends of the court. Currently she is ranked in seven CIAA statistical categories including scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, blocks and assist/turnover ratio. She in a CIAA best at 1st in both assists and steals, two categories for which she ranks 10th and 4th in the nation, respectively.
Rounding out the All-CIAA selections is junior forward Tiffany Smith. In the CIAA she ranks 8th in scoring, 11th in rebounding, 8th in field goal percentage and 7th in free throw percentage. Earlier this season in an overtime win over Livingstone College, she set a new school record for points in a game with 47. That point total represents the second highest in NCAA Division II this so far this season. After that performance Smith, a native of Cheverly, MD, was named CIAA Player of the Week.
