ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Elizabeth City State University Lady Vikings swept the season series from Virginia State University 82-57 Saturday night at the RL Vaughan Center.
The Lady Vikings now sit in second place in the CIAA East with a divisional record of 6-2.
ECSU led the entire game and on the strength of their post play, were able to dominate the Lady Trojans throughout the contest. The home team controlled the boards with a convincing 48-26 advantage. In the first half the Lady Vikings shot a solid 45% from the floor which was good for an eleven-point edge at halftime (42-31). In the second stanza the Lady Vikings would turn on the defensive pressure as Virginia State connected on only 10 shot from the fields. The Lady Trojans were paced by the 2006 Rookie of the Year Katania Walker who finished with 17 points as VSU falls to 4-20 (CIAA 3-10) on the season.
The Lady Vikings got balanced scoring with four players landing in double figures led by Celeste Trahan's 22 points and 9 rebounds. Tanika Hudgins registered 16 points while Deanna Price and Tiffany Smith added 15 points and 13 points respectively.
