Final Stats
MORROW, GA- The Elizabeth City State University Lady Vikings dropped their second straight game Saturday evening in a 62-57 loss to the University of West Georgia.
A lay-up by Tanika Hudgins with 2:09 remaining knotted the game at 55 apiece. West Georgia responded via a Kristen Murdock 3-pointer to break the tie. The Lady Vikings managed only one shot at the basket and turned the ball over three times in the final two minutes of play. Their last two points came courtesy of the made free throws by Tanika Hudgins with 1:27 to go. The game was a see saw affair as in totality there were 10 lead changes and six ties. The Lady Vikings held the edge in the post outscoring their opponents 38-22 and controlled the boards with a 40-28 advantage. Off the bench West Georgia (8-6) got a combined 27 points from Kristen Murdock (16) and Kandyes Jimcoily (11).West Georgia had the more productive bench play as their reserves outscored ECSU's 33-20.
Celeste Trahan led all scorers with 17 points and 11 rebounds while Christina Hager contributed 10 and 9 rebounds as a starter. For Trahan, Saturday's double-double was the 48th of her career.
The Lady Vikings will return to action on January 9, 2007 as they will travel to Raleigh, NC to take on the 4-time CIAA Champion Shaw University Lady Bears. Game time is slated for 5:30pm at Spaulding Gymnasium. For more information on ECSU Athletics visit www.ecsuvikings.com.
