ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Elizabeth City State University Lady Viking basketball team slipped to 0-2 overall in a 97-64 loss to Clayton State University Saturday afternoon at the RL Vaughan Center.

After a competitive first half that saw them lead by four (42-38) at the intermission, the Lakers outscored the Lady Viking 55-26 in the second half of play. In spite of the fact that the Lady Vikings held a favorable rebounding edge (51-39) the Clayton State (4-0) bench tripled the ECSU reserves 41-11. The Lakers had five scorers in double figures with Sharon Wiles netting a team high 21 points. The Lady Vikings amassed a dismal 31 turnovers in the game some of which led to 35 points for Clayton State.

For the second consecutive game senior forward Tiffany Smith led all scorers with 25 points while All-American Celeste Trahan contributed 15 points and 12 rebounds to post the 41st double-double of her career.

The Lady Vikings will be on the road all next week, opening up their 2006-07 CIAA schedule on Tuesday, November 28th against Johnson C. Smith. Game time is slated for 5:30pm. For more information on ECSU Athletics, visit www.ecsuvikings.com
