ELIZABETH CITY, NC-The Wingate University Bulldogs spoiled the Elizabeth City State University women's basketball season opener 75-65 Friday afternoon at the RL Vaughan Center.
In a game that saw 16 ties throughout its duration, the Bulldogs pulled away late in the second half by holding ECSU scoreless for the final 4:08 of the game. During that span the Lady Vikings went 0-6 from the field and Wingate finished the game outscoring ECSU 35-25 in the second half. Additionally the Lady Vikings were 7-for-17 from the free throw line in the second half. Tenetra Barrett paced the Bulldogs with 20 points and 7 rebounds while Emily Paffrath contributed 12 points. Tiffany Smith led all scorers with 25 points while Deanna Price added a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds.
