Final Stats
LAWRENCEVILLE, VA- The Elizabeth City State University Lady Vikings held on to defeat Saint Paul's College 86-84 Thursday night at the Taylor-Whitehead Gymnasium.
The game was a see-saw affair in which the lead was exchanged six times. The Lady Vikings were up by 6 points with 23 seconds remaining until a Rebecca Edmonds lay-up cut the lead to 4. A subsequent Lady Viking turnover led to a three-pointer by Ciera Green with a mere 5 second left in the contest. Katrina Wright then fouled Shaneetha Holley who made one of two free throws for the final point scored in the game. SPC had an opportunity to send the game to an extra session however Green's last shot attempt missed its mark for the Lady Tigers who fall to 5-13 on the year. Four Lady Tigers notched double figures with Nikki Bowen leading the way with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Green added 19, with Edmonds contributing 16 while Wright chipped in with 12 points.
After seeing her season streak of 13 double-doubles snapped on Monday against the Univ. of District of Columbia, All-American Candidate Celeste Trahan bounced back with a 31 point, 14 rebound performance last night to lead the Lady Vikings. Her teammates Tanika Hudgins and Tiffany Smith added double-doubles of their own with 11, 11 and 24, 10 respectively. For Smith, this marks her 4th consecutive double-double.
The Lady Vikings (9-6, CIAA 5-1) will wrap up this week's competition on Saturday as they travel to face Virginia Union University. Game time is scheduled for 5:30pm in Richmond, VA. For more information on ECSU Athletics, visit www.ecsuvikings.com.
