LADY VIKINGS DEFEAT UDC LADY FIREBIRDS 86-72

ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Elizabeth City State University Lady Vikings defeated the University of D.C. Lady Firebirds 86-72 Monday night in Washington, DC.

For the game the Lady Vikings were hot from the field, shooting 47.9%, including 6 for 12 from behind the three-point arc. Junior forward Tiffany Smith collected her second double-double in as many games finishing with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Ranisha Childress came off the bench for ECSU to lead all scorers with 22 points. D.C. native Deanna Price did not disappoint her hometown fans with 21 points and 8 rebounds, her second best scoring output of the season.

The Lady Vikings 14 point victory was secured at the half which they led 37-24. Both teams would step it up offensively in the second half ECSU narrowly outscoring UDC 49-48. However time would expire before the home team could make up the first half deficit. Sylvia Kemp led the way for UDC with 21 points as the Lady Firebirds slip to 6-16 on the year. All-American candidate Celeste Trahan saw her double-double streak halted at 13 games as she finished with a season low 8 points, yet managed to haul in 15 rebounds in 24 minutes of play.

The Lady Vikings (8-6) will return to action on Thursday, January 26th as they travel to Lawrenceville, VA to take on Saint Paul's College. Game time is scheduled for 5:30pm. For more information on ECSU Athletics, visit www.ecsuvikings.com.
