ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Elizabeth City State Lady Vikings defeated the Chowan College Lady Braves 78-34 at the RL Vaughan Center in Elizabeth City, NC.
The Lady Vikings controlled the tempo from the beginning going on a 17-0 run to put the game out of reach. The Lady Braves would finally get on the board at the 13:05 mark on a lay-up by Alicia McMorris. The Lady Vikings held the Lady Braves to just 7 points in the first half on 3-32 shooting. ECSU would hold a 30-point advantage (37-7) at the break.
The second half mirrored the first as the Lady Vikings dominate every aspect of the game. By its conclusion ECSU had out- rebounded the opposition 71 -35. They also held the edge in points off turnovers (27-8), points in the paint (50-20) and bench production (27-7). The Lady Braves scored their final eight points of the game from the free throw line as their final shot from the field came with 7:31 remaining on a lay-up by Tawana Tucker.
All but one Lady Viking scored as Tiffany Smith led the way 20 points and 10 rebounds. All-American candidate Celeste Trahan registered her 31st career double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. For Chowan (11-7) Tucker finished with a team high 10 points.
The Lady Vikings (6-6, CIAA 3-1) will play host to cross-division rival Fayetteville State University on Saturday, January 21, 2006. The CIAA doubleheader will tip off at 5:30pm followed by the Vikings and Broncos at 7:30pm. For more information on ECSU Athletics, log onto www.ecsuvikings.com
