FAYETTEVILLE, NC- Fayetteville State University quarterback Jonathan Autry threw for 244 yards and 4 touchdowns as the Broncos defeated Elizabeth City State University 39-6 Saturday night at Jeralds Stadium in Fayetteville, NC.
The Vikings slip to 1-2 overall while the Broncos improve to 2-1. Both teams are 0-0 in conference play.
The Broncos pounced on ECSU early, scoring on two of their first three possessions, then sacked Viking quarterback Rayburn Morris in the end zone for a safety and a 16- 0 lead by the end of the first quarter. For the second consecutive week, the Vikes were plagued by turnovers as they committed 7 on the evening. For the Broncos wide receiver Veon McHam caught five passes for 172 yards and 4 touchdowns, one of which was for 57 yards, the first score of the game.
The lone ECSU score came via a 7-yard touchdown run by Victor Brach with 7:24 remaining in the game. Defensively, ECSU linebacker Emanuel Plummer collected a game high 13 tackles including 2 for a loss of 10 yards, a forced fumble and a sack. Dennis Hamilton was the most instrumental in the fourth quarter touchdown, as he carried the ball 5 times for 48 yards in the 11-play, 64 yard scoring drive that took 5:08. He finished the game's leading rusher with 71 yards on 10 carries, all of which came in the final quarter of play.
