10/8/2025 2:45:00 PM

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Elizabeth City State University Director of Athletics James DuBose Jr. has been appointed to the NCAA Committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports (CSMAS), one of the Association's most influential committees dedicated to student-athlete health and safety.

The committee's mission is to provide expertise and leadership to promote a healthy and safe environment for student-athletes through research, education, collaboration, and policy development. CSMAS includes 25 members from across the NCAA membership, representing athletics administrators, coaches, physicians, sports medicine staff, mental health practitioners, researchers, faculty, and student-athletes.

DuBose's appointment runs through August 2029, during which he will serve alongside colleagues from all three NCAA divisions to guide national policy and best practices in the areas of student-athlete well-being, medical care, and competitive safeguards.

""I'm grateful for the opportunity to serve on the NCAA Committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports.," DuBose said. "It's a privilege to contribute to enhancing the safety and well-being of student-athletes across the country."

Since arriving at Elizabeth City State University, DuBose has provided leadership and vision for Viking Athletics, focusing on student-athlete success in competition, in the classroom, and in the community. His selection to CSMAS reflects both his professional expertise and ECSU's growing voice on the national stage.

The CSMAS roster includes representatives from across the NCAA's three divisions, physicians with specialized expertise, sports law and sport-science professionals, coaches, and student-athlete representatives. The committee's work directly informs NCAA policy related to health and safety, competitive fairness, and overall student-athlete well-being.
