Lady Vikings Downed in the Championship, 64-59

The Elizabeth City State women's basketball team lost to the Fayetteville State Lady Broncos in the 2024 CIAA Championship on Saturday afternoon at the CFG Bank Arena in Baltimore, Maryland, with a final score of 64-59.

The Lady Vikings opened the game with a three-pointer from Alanis Hill and led 17-13 at the end of the first quarter. Fayetteville State transfer Rasheka Simmons came into the game and knocked down two huge three-pointers. Rashauna Grant would have her second double-double of the tournament scoring 14 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.

Despite outrebounding the Lady Broncos 49-30, with 24 rebounds coming on the offensive side, the Lady Vikings could not secure a win. Nevertheless, they regained the lead at the 3:00-minute mark of the third quarter after battling back for most of the period.

Things got chippy, and at the 1:37 mark, a technical foul was assessed to Rasheka Simmons. Senior guard Alanis Hill led all Viking scorers with 16 points and grabbed 4 rebounds.

Head coach Tynesha Lewis expressed gratitude for being in the championship but acknowledged that it was a tough loss. With an overall record of 20-11, the Vikings ended their CIAA season.
