BALTIMORE, MD— Elizabeth City State University men's basketball team would begin their quest for the CIAA Championship against the fourth-seeded Shaw Bears, inside the CFG Bank Arena on Tuesday night.
The Vikings would start the contest by putting together a string of field goals to take a seven-point advantage over the Bears including an emphatic dunk from
Reggie Raynor. The bears would find their rhythm from behind the arc. The Vikings would finish the first half with a 41.4 % field goal percentage. Going into the half the Vikings were led by Xavier Tubbs-Matthew who scored 10 points.
In the second half, the Vikings would be willed by
Reggie Raynor. Raynor would find himself in foul trouble, but this would not deter him from providing energy and pouring in 11 second-half points. With a big shot from
Michael Eads Jr., at the 3:20 mark. The Vikings would pull away to take the victory 70-67.
The Vikings advance to the CIAA Quarterfinals tomorrow night where they will face the #1 seeded Lincoln (PA) Lions. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:50 PM.
