SPARTANBURG, S.C.- The Elizabeth City State Vikings began their season by participating in the three-day HBCU CIAA/SIAC Classic held in Spartanburg, S.C. On the first day of the tournament, the Vikings faced Savannah State at Tyger River Park and unfortunately lost the game with a score of 4-9.
Savannah State made a strong start by hitting a single to the left field, bringing in two lady tiger runners and taking the lead with a score of 2-0 early on. In the top of the second inning, the Vikings managed to get on the scoreboard with
Allison Perry's hit.
The Vikings made a strong comeback in the top of the third inning by getting three hits.
Karrigan Belangia started with a double, followed by
Zeta Brown's single, and then
Karma Fields' single that brought Belangia home, tying the score at 2-2.
However, the Tigers pulled away in the bottom of the third inning by scoring 5 runs. The Vikings scored 2 more runs, but it wasn't enough to catch up, and the final score was 9-4 in favor of Savannah State.
