Simmons Lifts Lady Vikings Over Washington Adventist

TAKOMA PARK, MD- The women's basketball team of Elizabeth City State (9-7, 3-5 CIAA) won a close game against Washington Adventist University (8-4) with a final score of 70-60 on Sunday afternoon in Takoma Park, Maryland. 

In the first half, the Lady Vikings dominated the game, holding the Shock to just nine points in the first quarter. Alanis Hill scored 10 points in the quarter and finished with a total of 14 points, making this the eighth consecutive game scoring in double digits.

In the second quarter, the Lady Vikings impressed with their shooting from behind the arc, scoring 5-7. Rasheka Simmons led all scorers with 20 points and was perfect in her three three-pointer attempts in the second quarter, finishing the quarter with 12 points. Simmons also added a rebound, a steal, and one assist to her game totals.

In the second half, the Vikings struggled, shooting 2-10 from behind the arc. However, senior guard NyAsia Blango stepped up and secured the team's victory. The Women's team will play their next game on Wednesday, January 17, against Edward Waters University at the R.L. Vaughan Center with tip-off scheduled for 6 PM.
