Great 2nd half adjustments lift Vikings over Winston-Salem State 20-17

Mejette posts a game and career best 17 tackles

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. - Quick adjustments on offensive play calling in the final moments of the third quarter gave the Elizabeth City football team what it needed to come away with their first season win and first home game victory over Winston-Salem State 20-17 on Saturday afternoon. The game was televised on Asipire TV in a host of markets from New York City NY to Atlanta, GA and brought in a whopping 7000 fans to Roebuck Stadium, the largest turn out in stadium history thus far. The Vikings improve to a 1-2 season (1-0 CIAA) as Winston-Salem drops to 0-3 (0-1 CIAA). Graduate student Juanya' Majette recorded his first ever game-high, career high 17 tackles (seven solo). This record is the most of any player in the conference currently. Third string quarterback Tesean Jones stepped in and helped transform the outcome of the second half and threw 7/7 for 128 yards with one touchdown for 75-yards to wide-receiver Zion Riddick.

"In the second half I felt like we needed a spark so [we] wanted to switch it up and QB and give Tesean a chance at it" recaps Heach Coach Marcus Hilliard, " we felt good what we were doing defensively and just needed a spark offensively. He made an immediate impact and put us in a position to win the game" 

The Vikings travel southwest down Route 64 to Durham County Memorial Stadium for more CIAA conference play against the Bears of Shaw University. Kickoff is slated for 1 P.M.
