RALEIGH, N.C. - Holding a team that just defeated the reigning CIAA champions last week to only 27 minutes of possession time, says a lot about the efforts of the Vikings defense; unfortunately it was not enough to turn the tide on offense as the Vikings dropped their second cross-divisional matchup against the Shaw Bears 16-35 at Durham County Stadium.  Junior linebacker Demorian Smith recorded his first-ever interception-turned-touchdown for 80 yards on Saturday afternoon. "Defensively we are starting to gel, and we have made some key defensive turnovers in back to back games.' recalls Head Coach Marcus Hilliard,  " [We] still are not operating at our highest level, but once we clean up the mistakes we will be a force to reckon with".

Wins for ECSU:
-Only allowed 27 minutes of possession time (best of all Shaw's previous opponents thus far) 
-Shut out Shaw's attempts to convert on third down; Shaw was 1 for 11 on conversions
-Forced seven punts for 243 yards 
-Interception for a returned TD (D. Smith, 80-yards)
