PEMBROKE, N.C. -- The Elizabeth City State University women's volleyball team dropped a tough fought contest in straight sets in their 2019 season opener at the hands of UNC Pembroke on Tuesday evening.
The Vikings (0-1) came out with the upper hand in the beginning portions of the first set. ECSU raced out to a 14-12 advantage before the Braves (3-2) finished the set with a 13-6 run to win the set.
ECSU dropped sets two and three by a 25-13 and 25-9 score.
The Vikings were led by
Jahera Dangerfield and
Kaylee Williams with four kills a piece. Freshman
Chayse Tyler recorded two kills in her first outing in a Viking uniform and recorded nine assists to lead the ECSU effort.
Nasya Cabanez had a stellar debut for ECSU as the freshman recorded six assists to lead the Vikings in that category.
ECSU will be back in action on Tuesday, September 17th as the Vikings will travel to Wilson, N.C. to face off against Barton College. The match is slated to begin at 6:00 p.m.
