Vikings Battle It Out At SAU in Double OT 91-81 Win

ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Lady Vikings battled it out in a double-overtime 91-81 win on the road against St. Augustine's.
 
The Vikings improve to 4-5 overall on the season, 2-0 in the CIAA.
 
The Falcons drop to 4-4  on the season, 0-1 in the CIAA.

Five Vikings ended the game in double-digits.
 
Sophomore forward Sirenna Pitts (Raleigh, NC) put the Vikings on her back, recording season highs in scoring and rebounding finishing the day with 23 points and 18 rebounds. Senior forward Markeia Porter (Louisville, KY) followed up with a season high of 15 points, and Devona Stell (Atlanta, GA) added 14 points.
 
The Falcons were offensively led by Quiera Gilmore with 18 points and defensively led by Tanisha Wall with 13 rebounds.  
 
ECSU shot 43.1 percent from the field, 30 percent from behind the arc, and 68.4 percent at the line.
 
St. Augustine's shot 38.5 percent from the field, 45.5 percent from behind the arc, and 45.8 percent at the line. 
 
The Falcons got off to a 12-4 run to start the game, but the Vikings answered back with a 12-4 run of their own to end the quarter tied at 16-all, highlighted by eight points from Pitts.
 
The Vikings trailed the falcons 34-30 at the half after the Falcons took advantage of the opening quarter tie and never looked back. 
 
The Falcons maintained a short lead throughout the duration of the third quarter and continued to shoot the three ball well, but ECSU stayed within striking distance.
 
Both teams exchanged shots to open up the fourth quarter, but a pair of completed 3-point plays at the line from Porter, a three-pointer, and trips to the line from Tiffany McCarter (Raleigh, NC) tied the game twice.
 
Once again the Falcons took advantage of the tied game with five unanswered points from Carabolla to claim a 56-60 lead with 2:44 left to play.
 
The Vikings maintained their composure putting together a 7-2 run, highlighted by a layup from Porter with 13 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime 67-all.
 
ECSU outscored the Falcons 24-14 in double overtime action to secure their second consecutive conference win of the season 91-81.
  
The Vikings will be back in action on Monday night at Fayetteville State University to take on the Broncos at 5:30 p.m. for the final stop of their three game North Carolina road trip.
