ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Vikings defeated the Falcons of St. Augustine's University 85-75 on Saturday.

The Vikings improve to 7-4 overall on the season, 1-1 in the CIAA.

The Falcons drop to 2-5 on the season, 0-1 in the CIAA.
Junior guard
Zaccheus Hobbs (Maysville, NC) led the charge for the Vikings recording season-highs of 33 points and seven rebounds shooting 50 percent from the field and knocking down all seven ECSU three-pointers.
Justin Faison (Waldorf, Md) and
Rashard Zimmerman (Detroit, MI) followed up with 14 points each.Â

Hobbs and Zimmerman led the Vikings rebounding efforts with seven each, while Faison leads the CIAA in steals adding three to his total with the win in Raleigh.

The Falcons were offensively led by Gary Jefferson with 22 points and defensively led by Miguel Brown and Hirk Williams with nine rebounds each. Â

ECSUÂ shot 41.8 percent from the field, 38.5 percent from behind the arc, and 72.5 percent at the line.

St. Augustine's shot 37.7 percent from the field, 31.6 percent from behind the arc, and 65.4 percent at the line.Â

The Falcons got off to a 14-4 run to start the game, but a three-pointer from Hobbs ended up being the spark ECSU needed and his only points of the first half.

A layup and trips to the line for Zimmerman gave the Vikings their first lead of the game 20-19 at the 5:35 mark.

Both teams exchanged baskets as the Vikings and Falcons headed into the half tied 28-all.

SAU received a lot of help from their bench with 16 points in the first half, 31 on the night.

The Faclcons won the battle of the boards out rebounding ECSU 31-18 in the first half.Â

The Vikings controlled the rebounding in the second half and Hobbs single handedly revived the Vikings from behind the arc.

Hobbs scored 14 of the Vikings first 15 points in the second half to give the Vikings a 43-37 advantage; highlighted by three consecutive three-pointers.
Despite their efforts the Vikings could not put the Falcons away, and with 2:19 left to play ECSUÂ was holding on to 67-65 lead.
The Vikings finished the game with a series of trips to the line to secure the 85-75 victory.

The Vikings will be back in action on Monday night at Fayetteville State University to take on the Broncos at 7:30 p.m. for the final stop of their three game North Carolina road trip.
