ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Lady Vikings secured a 58-36 road win against Shaw University in Raleigh, NC on Thursday night.

The Vikings improve to 3-5 overall on the season, 1-0 in the CIAA.

The Bears are 3-5 on the season.

Sophomore forward
Sirenna Pitts (Raleigh, NC) and sophomore guard
Asia Deal (Norfolk, VA) led the charge for the Vikings offensively with 15 points each.Â

Defensively the Vikings had Pitts leading the boards with nine rebounds, senior
Devona Stell (Atlanta, GA) with four blocks, Deal with five steals, and freshman Ny'Asia Blango (Havelock, NC) with four steals.Â

The Bears were offensively and defensively led by Dejoria Howard with 10 points and seven rebounds.

ECSU shot 44 percent from the field, 30.8 percent from behind the arc, and 52.6 percent at the line.

Shaw shot 27.5 percent from the field, 16.7 percent from behind the arc, and 50 percent at the line.Â

Both teams turned the ball over quite a bit, but the Vikings managed to outscore Shaw 29-13 in points off of turnovers.

ECSU's defensive presence played a huge roll in the win, but it was the 21-10 first quarter that gave the Vikings their biggest edge of the contest.Â

The Vikings will be back in action on Saturday at St. Augustine's University to take on the Falcons 2 p.m. for stop two of their three game North Carolina road trip.
