ELIZABETH CITY, NC- Kenny King had a career best three rushing touchdowns as Elizabeth City State University rolled past Chowan University 49-33 before the Vikings' Homecoming crowd Saturday afternoon.

King finished the afternoon with 98 yards (92 net) on 21 carries. ECSU's first two touchdowns of the afternoon were courtesy of King, who notched scoring runs of 7 and 5 yards in the opening quarter. His third touchdown of the day came during a 21 point third quarter scoring spurt where the Vikings essentially put the game out of reach.

After Chowan's next dive stalled at their 33 yard line, Nick Hahula's punt attempt was blocked by Malcolm Cherry, then scooped and scored for six by Breon Bailey. Jeff Flores' point after attempt extended ECSU's lead to 35-13.

On the first snap of the Hawk's ensuing drive, Tyrrel Jones picked off an errant pass by Ryan Nolan at Chowan's 23 yard line. Four plays later King found the end zone for the third time and the Vikings took a commanding 42-13 lead.

Demetrius Hamilton led all defenders with a game high 15 tackles including a sack for a loss of 6 yards. The Vikings racked up 5.0 sacks on Saturday for a loss of 34 yards and only gave up 153 net rushing yards.

The Hawks' JR Williams added a 61 yard punt return for a TD with 25 seconds left in the third and then a muffed punt return gave Chowan the ball back at the ECSU 26. CU converted the turnover into another TD; a 13 yard rushing score by Nolan but the Hawks faced a 42-27 deficit with 9:43 left in the contest.

The Vikings then played keep away, milking the clock for over 8 minutes with a 16-play 90 yard drive that was capped by a 1 yard touchdown by Josh Joyner. Chowan (1-7, CIAA 0-5) was awarded a short field after the Vikings were whistled for three personal fouls on the Hawks' final possession.
