WINGATE, NC- The Wingate University Bulldogs handed the Elizabeth City State Vikings a 15-7 loss on Saturday afternoon at Irwin Belk Stadium and John R. Martin Field.

With the win the Bulldogs remain undefeated (4-0) and they subsequently extended the Vikings' losing streak to three games, all to teams from the South Atlantic Conference.

The Bulldogs were working on a shutout until the 14:54 mark of the fourth quarter when Curtis Rich, Jr. connected with Reggie Smith for a 20-yard score. However that would prove to be the Vikings' only score of the day.

Yet the drive yielded no points as Daniel Mendez's 29 yard field goal attempt was blocked by Brandon Lawson. On the Bulldogs ensuing drive converted 10 plays (including five first downs) into a touchdown pass from JD Moore to Shawn Barrett for a 6-0 lead after the extra point attempt failed.

Wingate added a 1-yard rushing touchdown by Moore and a 21-yard field goal by RP Lopez in the third quarter. The Bulldogs converted on three of their five opportunities in the red zone while the Vikings made it inside Wingate's twenty yard line twice, scoring once on the Rich to Smith pass.

The Bulldog's Nelson Woods rushed for a career high 199 yards, all but 85 yards of Wingate's total ground attack. Defensively the Vikings were paced by Rod Jones and Jeremiah Marable, who both tallied game highs of 13 tackles apiece.

The Vikings (1-3, CIAA 1-0) will return to CIAA conference play when they host Saint Augustine's College at the 11th Annual Down East Viking Football Classic.
