ECSU VOLLEYBALL RELEASES 2005 SCHEDULE

ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Elizabeth City State University Athletic Department, along with head coach Linda Bell, released its 2005 volleyball schedule Tuesday afternoon.

The Lady Vikings will kick off the nineteen date season on August 27th at home as they will welcome the University of the District of Columbia Lady Firebirds at 2:00pm. ECSU will open up its 2005 CIAA schedule three days later against Shaw University on August 30th in Elizabeth City at 6:00pm.

In the month of September, the Lady Vikings will face the toughest stretch of the their schedule as they will only have one home game versus Saint Paul's College on Wednesday the 7th at 6:00pm. The remainder of the month will feature games against 2004 championship finalist Virginia Union University (9/13), divisional foe Virginia State (9/28) and non-conference Chowan College (9/30). September 16-18, ECSU will travel to Fayetteville, NC to participate in the annual Volleyball Round-Up, which will pit the Lady Vikings against the six teams in the CIAA Western Division. The very next weekend (9/23-24), the Lady Vikings will be one of six teams competing in the 2005 Lady Ram Invitational hosted by Winston-Salem State University.

In October, the Lady Vikings will have eight games, four away, four at home. The home contests will feature Virginia State (10/4), Bowie State (10/10), Virginia Union (10/25), and Chowan College (10/25). All home games will be played to the RL Vaughan Center on the campus of Elizabeth City State University.

In their first year under head coach Linda Bell, the Lady Vikings finished with an overall record of 7-11, (CIAA 5-11) fifth place in the CIAA Eastern Division. The top four teams in the Eastern and Western Divisions will advance to the 2005 CIAA Volleyball Championships November 4-6 in Durham, NC.
