Ron Woodard

Woodard is no stranger to the CIAA or Elizabeth City State University. He has spent the last year as the Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Saint Augustine’s University.
 
Ron Woodard joins the Elizabeth City State University Women's Basketball coaching Staff as the Assistant Women's Basketball Coach.

Head Coach Tynesha Lewis announced the addition of Coach Woodard to her staff for the upcoming 2020-21 season.

In 2014 Woodard served as Interim Women’s Basketball Head Coach for the Vikings earning CIAA Coach of the Week honors.

Woodard has been a successful head and assistant basketball coach throughout his 20 plus years of coaching. His overall record as head coach is 165-99, including a 44-6 mark in two seasons as Head Men's Coach at Virginia University of Lynchburg. He was 121-93 in 11 seasons as Head Men's Coach at Claflin University.
 
Under his leadership, the Panthers won the NAIA's Eastern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title in 2005 and the NCAA's Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) regular-season title in 2009. Woodard was selected SIAC Coach of the Year after posting the best record (24-2) of any HBCU program in 2007-08.


From 1988 to 2001 Woodard coached at North Carolina Central University (NCCU) starting out as the Assistant Men's Basketball Coach. In 1995 he became the Associate Head Men's Basketball Coach and from 2000-2001 he was named Special Assistant to the Athletic Director.


Woodard brought his winning mentality to the Eagles throughout his tenure, appearing in five NCAA Division II Tournaments and advancing to the Elite Eight twice. In 1989 the Eagles captured the NCAA Division II national title. 
 

Prior to his arrival at NCCU Woodard was an Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at Kentucky State University for two consecutive seasons. 
 
As a former Spartan, the Norfolk State University graduate started his coaching career as a graduate assistant for the men's basketball team and as a football staff assistant at NSU, from 1981 to 1985.
 
Woodard graduated from Norfolk State with a Bachelor of Science Degree in health and physical education in 1981. He received his Masters of Arts Degree in curriculum development and supervision administration in 1986.
