Ryan Walker

Ryan Walker Joins the Elizabeth City State University coaching staff as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the 2024 season. Walker, a former collegiate and professional quarterback, brings a decade of coaching experience to Elizabeth City and his knowledge on offense stems from some of the best in the industry such as Ryan Carty, Kerwin Bell, Ron Turner, and Mark Orlando.

In July of 2023 Walker joined the University of Delaware football coaching staff and served as an offensive analyst while assisting with the team’s wide receivers. Walker helped lead Delaware to a 9-4 record and the second round of the FCS playoffs. Walker's wide receivers at Delaware included one third team all-conference player as well as multiple others reaching career highs in yards and touchdowns.

Walker joined the Blue Hens after he spent the 2022 season at UNC Pembroke where he was the wide receivers coach and special teams coordinator. During his time at Pembroke the receivers marked multiple games with multiple receivers gaining over 100 plus receiving yards. Also, all special teams units improved from years past as well as leading the conference in punt returns with an all 1st team conference punt returner as well. The Braves also recorded multiple conference special teams players of the week during his tenure there.

He was at Grambling State University for the 2020 and 2021 seasons where he coached both the tight ends and quarterbacks. He also served as the interim play caller at GSU during the 2020 campaign with his quarterbacks having a 70 percent completion percentage and a 3-1 ratio of TD’s to INT’s. Walker helped mold the career of tight end Kalif Jackson who would sign a UDFA contract with the Miami Dolphins following an impressive collegiate career with the Tigers.

Walker trained prep, collegiate and professional athletes across a seven-year stay (2014-20) as a quarterbacks coach for DeBartolo Sports QB Academy under NFL consultant Joe Dickinson and former San Francisco 49ers owner and Hall of Famer, Eddie DeBartolo Jr. His list of mentees at that stop includes more than 30 NCAA Division I signal callers, most notably former Alabama standout, NFL first round pick, and current Jacksonville Jaguar quarterback Mac Jones. Additionally, he tutored fellow Elite 11 finalist Carter Bradley, who will be joining Mac in the NFL ranks in the 2024 NFL draft.

Walker joined the coaching ranks as wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator at Pedro Menendez High School in Saint Augustine, Florida during the 2015 season, and served a similar role at Ridgeview High School in nearby Orange Park during the 2016 campaign. He took on the role as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Atlantic Coast High School in Jacksonville for the 2017 and 2019 seasons as well.

He played both the quarterback and the tight end position at Jacksonville University from 2010-13, and played one season (2014) under center at Florida International. An academic All-America selection for the Dolphins, he was a part of 29 victories in Jacksonville and caught three passes for 74 yards as a senior, including a career-long 42-yard reception against Davidson.

Walker also earned a three-year playing stint (2015-16, 2018) at the professional level as a member of the Jacksonville Sharks (AFL). He also spent the 2017 football season as a part-time volunteer with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

A native of Mandarin, Florida, Walker earned his bachelor’s degree in exercise science at Jacksonville University in 2014, and completed his masters in sports administration at Grambling State University in 2021. Walker and his wife, Theresa, have three children – daughter, Mila, and their two sons, Boston and Brody.
