Brandon Plummer, a native of Norfolk, Virginia, is embarking on his first college coaching opportunity as an assistant coach for the Elizabeth City State Vikings under the leadership of Coach John Richardson. With a rich background in coaching at the high school level, Plummer is dedicated to athlete development, strategic innovation, and fostering team success.

Plummer earned his bachelor's degree in biology from Virginia State University, where he was not only a student-athlete but also served as a two-year captain for the Trojans. His collegiate experience laid the groundwork for his successful coaching career.

Before joining the Viking family, Plummer spent six years as the head men’s basketball coach at Maury High School in Norfolk, VA. Under his guidance, the program posted an impressive overall record of 137-25 and made four state tournament appearances. One of his crowning achievements was leading the Commodores to their first-ever state championship, a feat that places him among the elite few in Virginia to win a title as both a player and a coach. His accolades include being named the 2019 Virginia High School League Coach of the Year, two-time Regional Coach of the Year, and earning three Conference Coach of the Year honors, along with numerous academic awards for his teams. These accomplishments reflect his unwavering dedication to sports and his ability to inspire student athletes to reach their full potential.

Plummer’s college journey in basketball began at Norfolk State University before he transferred to the Wingate Bulldogs and later played for the Trojans of Virginia State University. He also showcased his talent professionally with the Tru Hope Trailblazers in the Atlantic Coast Professional Basketball League during the 2011-12 season.

In addition to his coaching roles, Plummer has gained valuable experience in sports management and athlete development through positions with the AAU organization Team Loaded 757 16U. He also dedicated twelve years to the Norfolk Public Schools district as an educator, teaching mathematics at both elementary and secondary levels.

Plummer began his coaching career as the junior varsity head coach at his alma mater, Booker T. Washington High School, from 2012 to 2016. He was an all-Tidewater honoree and a member of the state championship team in 2006 at the same school.

A proud resident of the 757 area, Brandon Plummer is the father of two wonderful children: 17-year-old son Jayvion Green and 13-year-old daughter Jordayn Plummer.

As he steps into his role with Elizabeth City State University, Plummer is eager to leverage his extensive experience and passion for the game to shape the next generation of athletes, enhancing both team performance and individual growth.
