Andre Gray is entering his second season as the head men’s basketball coach at Elizabeth City State University.
Gray, known as one of the top assistant coaches in Division I basketball, has over 20 years of coaching experience and 15 years on the Division I level. He most recently served as an assistant coach under coach Levelle Moton at North Carolina Central University. Prior to North Carolina Central, he was an assistant men’s basketball coach at UNC Greensboro, UNC Charlotte, Winston-Salem State University, UNC Wilmington, Western Carolina University, Gardner- Webb University, Wingate University, and Methodist College.
In his first season as coach, he led the Vikings to the NCAA Division II #1 ranked team in the country in blocked shots as well as the #6 ranked team in NCAA Division II in defensive field goal percentage and a top 30 finish in NCAA Division 2 in total Rebounds. He also coached and developed the CIAA Defensive Player of the Year, a member of the CIAA All-Freshman team, and an All-CIAA Tournament performer.
During Gray's career, he has been a part of 10 post-seasons and conference championships. He has also coached 27 All-Conference performers, and 12 Conference or Defensive players of the year.
He has worked with Wes Miller- UNC Greensboro (Current Head Men’s Basketball Coach at the University of Cincinnati), Mark Price- UNC Charlotte (former Cleveland Cavalier great), Buzz Peterson UNC Wilmington (Current Assistant General Manager of the Charlotte Hornets), Chris Holtmann- Gardner Webb (Current Head Men’s Basketball Coach The Ohio State University), Matt McMahon- UNCW (Current Head Men’s Basketball Coach at LSU), Houston Fancher- UNCW/ UNCC (All-time winningest coach at Appalachian State University), Eddie Beidenbach- UNCW (All time winningest coach at UNCA), and Larry Hunter- Western Carolina University, as well as many others. His wealth of knowledge will do well as he strives to build Elizabeth City State into a national contender.

Gray earned his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Methodist College and a Master of Science in Sports Management from Western Carolina University. Gray is also a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.
A native of Elizabethtown, NC, Gray is married to Taruis Gray.
