Coach Alfred Johnson returns to Elizabeth City State University to join the Vikings in 2019. Johnson brings a wealth of basketball knowledge and experience. He started his college coaching career (1991-1995), under former Coach, Dr. Claudie Mackey.
Coach Johnson's experiences after Elizabeth City State University, led him to stops as an Assistant Coach at such places as Alabama State University, Tennessee State University, Tuskegee University, and Valley Forge Military College.
His experiences as a Head Coach started at Germantown Friends School (1985-90)and later to colleges such as St. Mary’s College of Maryland (1999-2003), Holy Family University (2003-10), Manor College (2014-16) and Valley Forge Military College (2016-19).
Coach Johnson has served on numerous NCAA Men’s Basketball Committees. He has been selected Coach of the Year on the high school and college level and he has coached numerous All-Conference, All Region and All-American Players as an Assistant and as a Head Coach.
Known in the coaching profession as a tireless and skilled recruiter, Coach Johnson also has 264 wins on his resume. Coach Johnson is an ECSU graduate, getting his Bachelor’s Degree in History in 1994 and recently completed his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Concordia University of Portland.
