Tyrrel Jones enters his 3RD season on the Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) coaching staff as the Defensive Backs coach.

During his first season as Secondary coach, Jones guided a young group of DBs including Johnathan "Drew" Turnage who finished as the Vikings second leading tackler (54) and Brian Harrington who tied for 2nd in the conference with four interceptions.

Prior to his coaching stint at ECSU, Jones coached at local Elizabeth City powerhouse high school Northeastern High School where he assisted coaching Linebackers, Defensive Backs, and Wide Receivers. He helped coached seven All Northeastern Coastal Conference players as well as three All State Players.

Prior to his arrival at Northeastern High School, Jones was a four-year letterman at Elizabeth City State University playing Defensive End and Linebacker.  The three year starter helped lead the Vikings to a Northern Division Championship (2012) as well as a Pioneer Bowl (2012) victory against Tuskegee University. During the 2013 season, Jones led the Vikings in tackles (70) and was named CIAA Linebacker of the week. As a senior, Jones led the third ranked defense in the CIAA (2015).

A native of Virginia Beach, Va, Jones graduated from at Rocky River High School (Charlotte, NC) in 2012. As a prep player, Jones was a standout athlete in football and track.

Jones received in his B.S. in Physical Education with a concentration in teaching from Elizabeth City State University in 2017.

Tyrrel Jones is the son of Thomas and Renee Jones. He has an older brother named Thomas (TJ) as well. Jones is a dedicated member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.
