Vikings Fall on Road at JCSU, 71-52

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Elizabeth City State couldn't overcome a slow offensive start and fell 71–52 to Johnson C. Smith Thursday night at Brayboy Gymnasium.

The Vikings struggled to find consistency in the opening half, shooting 29.6 percent from the field as JCSU built a 32–20 halftime lead. Johnson C. Smith capitalized on efficient shooting and balanced scoring, knocking down four three-pointers in the first half and controlling the tempo.

ECSU showed improved offensive rhythm after the break, shooting 46.2 percent in the second half, but the Golden Bulls answered with timely baskets to keep the margin comfortable. JCSU shot 55.6 percent in the second half and pushed the lead to as many as 19 points.

Donovan Flamer led all scorers for the Vikings with 19 points and nine rebounds, adding two blocks and three steals in a strong all-around performance. Trevor Smith finished with eight points, while Daniel Nixon added seven off the bench.

Johnson C. Smith was paced by Trey Pettigrew, who scored a game-high 23 points on 9-of-16 shooting, including three three-pointers. Jared Davis added 12 points, and Marc Raye chipped in 12 off the bench as the Golden Bulls finished with 21 bench points.
