FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Elizabeth City State volleyball opened the 2025 season on Friday at the Fairmont State Classic, dropping matches to host Fairmont State and Slippery Rock. The Vikings fell 3–0 to the Falcons (25–12, 25–14, 25–8) in the morning session before battling Slippery Rock in a competitive three-set contest (26–24, 25–18, 25–21) in the afternoon.
Game 1: Fairmont State 3, ECSU 0
In the opener against host Fairmont State, Andrea Rose led the Vikings with five kills, while Jorja Hoffmann added four. Kendall Washington anchored the back row with 15 digs and contributed two service aces, while Serenity Lunnermon handed out nine assists. Despite the effort, ECSU was held to a -.067 hitting percentage as the Falcons hit .303 and finished with a 40–16 edge in kills.
Game 2: Slippery Rock 3, ECSU 0
The Vikings responded with a strong showing against Slippery Rock, nearly stealing the first set before falling in extra points, 26–24. Washington recorded a team-high 12 kills and six digs, while Hoffmann added seven kills. Rose chipped in five kills and Sydnee White dished out 14 assists. ECSU finished with 36 kills and 46 digs in the match, while Slippery Rock countered with 44 kills and 10 team blocks.
Elizabeth City State (0–2) continues play at the Fairmont State Classic on Saturday, with Palm Beach Atlantic at 10 AM and UVA-Wise at 4 PM.
