RALEIGH, N.C. – The Elizabeth City State Lady Vikings rallied from an early deficit to send the opening contest of the CIAA Round Up to extra innings before falling in the tenth inning of a highly-contested league opener.

Courtney Ward and Eboni Bailey paced the Lady Vikings with two hits each. Emma Fleming, Karrigan Belangia, Karma Fields, Courtney Hoggard, and Ema Cebrian picked up one hit each.
Karrigan Belangia and Ema Cebrian notched a double in their lone hits in the contest. Karma Fields slugged a two-run home run to even the contest in the sixth.
Oreanna Donaldson took the loss in the circle tossing 8.1 innings allowing only two earned runs with three strikeouts.
WSSU took an early 4-0 lead in the first inning behind a pair of Lady Vikings' errors. ECSY would rally in the latter portion of the contest capped off by Karma Fields' home run.
The Vikings and Rams matched runs in the eighth and ninth innings before WSSU finished off the contest with a sacrifice fly in the 10th inning.
UP NEXT
Mother nature played her part on the opening day of the CIAA Round Up forcing some scheduling changes. The Lady Vikings will take on Shaw, originally scheduled for Thursday at 6pm, will now be played at 1pm on Friday. ECSU will then compete around 8:30pm against Livingstone.
The contest against Johnson C. Smith will be played at a later date.
