Vikings Split With Panthers


Elizabeth City, N.C. - The ECSU Vikings softball team split the day versus Virginia Union University, on Thursday afternoon, in a doubleheader at South Park Sports Complex.

Game 1- In the first game, the Vikings fell to the Panthers of Virginia Union and moved their season record to (5-12). The Panthers of Virginia Union scored on good hitting from Kamryn Walker and Lianna Gonzalez who homered twice. The Vikings found life in the bottom of the sixth inning when Karrigan Belangia singled to left field, bringing home Jamia Guilford and Stephanie Komives. The Vikings scored five runs on four hits. The Panther defense proved to be too much for the Vikings in the first game resulting in a final score of 10-7.

Game 2- The Vikings allowed only five hits and two scores while capitalizing on Panther mistakes, during the second part of the day. The Vikings started the second game, with Alexis Monroe scoring on a wild pitch. Guilford also scored on a wild pitch for the Vikings. The Panthers would score twice in the top of the sixth inning making the score 5-2. Vikings would finish the job, closing out the second game with a final score of 7-2. Moving the Viking's overall record to (6-12).

The ECSU Vikings Softball team is back in action at South Park Sports Complex taking on Shaw University in a doubleheader slated for April 15, at 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm. For more information contact the ECSU Sports information office at (252) 335-3278.
